The Story
In August our Office Furniture USA partner, 9to5 Seating, celebrated their 10th Anniversary. We want to take this opportunity to share the history and future of the company. While 9to5’s parent company has manufactured chairs for over 30 years, the 9to5 Seating brand was launched in 2004 to cater specifically to the commercial office furniture market. From the beginning at their original location in Long Beach, CA to today’s LEED GOLD certified facility in Hawthorne, CA and recently opened factory in Union City, TN the story of 9to5 Seating has been one of growth, innovation and continuous improvement.
The Expansion
As 9to5 grew so did the demand for a larger manufacturing facility. In the summer of 2011 after careful planning and fast paced construction, the new facility in California was opened. Today the 110,00 square foot facility and corporate headquarters manufactures more than one thousand units per day. The Strata chair has become synonymous with 9to5 Seating. Since its The Strata chair has become synonymous with 9to5 Seating. Since its inception in 2008 tens of thousands of Strata chairs have been manufactured. Expanding on that foundation, 9to5 introduced new models like Bella, Vesta, Indy, Cosmo and Link as well as brand new models like Vault, Aria and Cydia.
The Future
Earlier in 2014 the company announced the opening of a 3rd factory in Union City, Tennessee. They ship components from this facility to their Hawthorne Plant for final assembly and distribution. The Tennessee facility is equipped with the latest manufacturing technology. 9to5 is now cutting, bending, welding and powder coating most of their metal guest chair frames there. Other component parts, including high-pressure injection molded plastic and molded foam seats and backs will be manufactured there as well.
